How existing spaces become new places for collaboration.
Upgrading the Existing
Existing spaces, existing furniture, new possibilities: for an international consulting client, we transformed key hubs within its existing offices into places for collaboration.
Challenge
The existing office spaces were designed mainly for traditional individual work. There were hardly any suitable places for exchange, spontaneous meetings or teamwork, and foyers and tea kitchens remained largely unused. We identified suitable areas to develop for hybrid working and as open community spaces, integrating the existing furniture along the way. We also redesigned the entrance areas so they would live up to the company's representative standards.
Process
We started with an on-site survey: How are the spaces used, where do employees move, and what furniture is available? From this, we developed a concept for each location that relies on a few targeted interventions. A shared design language connects all sites and is reinterpreted at each one. All measures were carried out section by section during ongoing operations, without disrupting daily work.
Impact
We added a diverse range of places for work and encounter to functional office spaces. Foyers welcome guests and employees with character again, tea kitchens have become meeting points for entire teams, and open areas offer room for meetings that happen spontaneously. The existing furniture has taken on a new role instead of being replaced. The result is offices with community highlights that all employees can see and experience.
